The Saturday Evening Post was a US magazine published weekly. It ran from 1821 to 1969 and published current event articles, editorials, human interest pieces, humor, illustrations, poetry, cartoons and stories by the leading writers of the time. It was known for commissioning lavish illustrations and original works of fiction. The illustrations featured on the covers became very popular and gave rise to the fame of illustrators Norman Rockwell, J.C. Leyendecker and Charles Livingston Bull. Their classic images recall a simpler time as well as representing the golden age of illustration.

In the 1950’s, television’s popularity posed a major challenge to the magazine, and by 1969 The Saturday Evening Post briefly ceased circulation. In 1971, The Post was revived as a quarterly publication by the Benjamin Franklin Literary & Medical Society (now the Saturday Evening Post Society), gaining wide recognition for its in-depth coverage of health and medical breakthroughs. Today, The Saturday Evening Post magazine is still published six times a year, maintaining its tradition of cover illustrations and continuing their legacy.
